Welcome to Ultreia, your Camino companion. This guide will help you get the most out of the app.

Getting Started

1. Allow Location - When prompted, allow Ultreia to access your location to show where you are on the map
2. Select Your Route - Tap the menu icon and choose "My Route" to filter the map to your Camino
3. Explore the Map - Pan and zoom to see the route and nearby amenities
4. Tap Markers - Tap on any marker to see details about water sources, albergues, and more

Map Controls

• Pinch - Zoom in and out
• Two-finger rotate - Rotate the map
• Compass - Tap to reset north orientation
• Location button - Center map on your current location

Layer Bar

The bottom bar lets you switch between different types of points of interest:

• Water cup - Drinking fountains with potability status (green = safe, red = not potable, gray = unknown)
• Bed - Albergues (pilgrim hostels) with beds, prices, and contact info
• Church - Points of interest including churches, monuments, stamps, and viewpoints
• Leaf & Shell - Vegan and vegetarian-friendly places

Leaf & Shell

Leaf & Shell is our database of vegan and vegetarian options along the Camino. We've walked the routes and personally verified these places. Each entry shows:

• Dietary status - Strictly Vegan, Vegetarian, or Offers Options
• Type - Albergue, restaurant, food shop, or café
• Contact info - Phone, WhatsApp, email, website
• Menu details - What vegan/vegetarian dishes they offer

To view all Leaf & Shell listings, tap the menu icon and select "Leaf & Shell List".

Offline Use

Ultreia works offline once you've loaded the map tiles:

1. While online, pan around the areas you'll be walking
2. The map tiles are automatically cached in your browser
3. When offline, cached areas will still display
4. POI data (fountains, albergues, etc.) is also cached after first load

Tip: Before leaving WiFi, open the map and scroll through your planned stages. This ensures the tiles are cached for offline use.

Help Out

Found incorrect information? Want to contribute? Visit "Help Out" in the menu to:

• Report fountain issues - Mark fountains as dry, not potable, or closed
• Submit stamp locations - Help us map Camino stamps for collectors
• Suggest vegan places - Know a great vegetarian spot? Let us know!

Troubleshooting

Map not loading?

• Check your internet connection for the initial load
• Try "Clear Cache" in the menu, then reload the page
• Make sure you're using a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

Location not working?

• Ensure location permissions are enabled in your device settings
• On iOS, use Safari for best PWA support
• Try moving to an area with better GPS signal

App feels slow?

• Select your specific route in "My Route" to reduce data loading
• Clear cache and reload if data seems stale

Install Ultreia

For the best experience, install Ultreia on your home screen:

iPhone/iPad: Open in Safari → tap Share → "Add to Home Screen"
Android: Tap the menu → "Install app" or "Add to Home Screen"
